ODIN® ELS-Canada Capability Demonstrator (ELS-CCD)

ODIN® ELS-Canada Capability Demonstrator (ELS-CCD)

Project

Ranovus’s ELS-CCD (ELS-Canadian Capability Demonstrator) project is developing a high-performance, Canadian-made External Laser Source (ELS) designed to power the next generation of AI data centers. This innovative laser source is a crucial component for Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), a new technology that dramatically improves the power efficiency, speed, and reliability of the systems that train and run complex AI applications. By bringing together the expertise of Ranovus and Canadian partners NRC-CPFC, C2MI, and Applied Nanotools, this project creates a novel, commercialization-ready solution that will strengthen the national semiconductor industry and support Canada’s leadership in the global digital economy.

"This project demonstrates the strength of Canadian collaboration. Together with our partners, we are forging more than just technology—we are building a sovereign supply chain for the global AI industry. By championing data and supply sovereignty, we are cementing Canada's role as a critical and reliable technology leader on the world stage."
— Hamid Arabzadeh, President & CEO, Ranovus
Ranovus

Ranovus is tackling one of the most significant hardware challenges in the evolution of Artificial Intelligence: the interconnect bottleneck. As AI models grow in complexity, the performance of AI data centers is increasingly limited by the power consumption, cost of traditional copper interconnects.

Ranovus’s ODIN® platform solves this problem using innovative Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), which integrate advanced optical interconnect chips directly with AI processors. This enables the development of more powerful, efficient, and sustainable AI systems for both commercial and critical government applications.

Ranovus is headquartered in Ottawa and majority owned by Canadian institutional investors. We are committed to building a resilient national technology infrastructure. Driven by a world-class team with diverse backgrounds and a proven track record of commercial success, we are establishing a sovereign innovation pipeline and supply chain. Through strong collaboration with

Canadian research and industry partners, Ranovus is securing Canada’s position as a global leader in the semiconductor sector.

Project Metrics
"To achieve true Sovereign AI, Canada must control the foundational hardware that powers it. Our CPO technology is a critical component, and FABrIC funding is essential to accelerate its development. This support allows us to seize a time-limited global opportunity, establishing Canada not just as an innovator, but as a master of its own AI destiny. To delay now is to risk losing market share and ceding control of our future AI capabilities to foreign technology."
— Mike Sekerka, VP Commercial & Government Programs, Ranovus
