Ultra Low Power Analog AI for Physical AI, Platform for IoT and Wearables

Project

Current digital AI chips are power-hungry, tethered to the grid, and don’t enable Canada’s edge-processing sovereignty. Blumind is breaking those limitations. Based in Ottawa, Blumind is commercializing a designed-in-Canada, all-analog semiconductor architecture that slashes AI power consumption by 100x to 1,000x. By moving away from inefficient digital processing, Blumind enables high-performance AI for physical AI at edge — powering systems with limited power, batteries or by using sustainable energy harvesting. Blumind’s competitive edge includes:

  • Zero-Downtime Intelligence: True “always-on” inference without the need for frequent recharging or battery replacement.
  • Production Velocity: The BM110 Audio Chip is transitioning from prototype to production-ready, with pilot deployments scheduled for early 2027.
  • The Analog Advantage: By processing signals natively in analog, Blumind eliminates the “power tax” of digital conversion, making it the ideal engine for the multi-billion unit IoT and physical AI markets.
Building Canadian capacity

In collaboration with Toronto’s NeuronicWorks Inc., Blumind developed an evaluation kit including hardware, firmware, and GUI development. NeuronicWorks will also provide manufacturing and packaging services, while C2MI will provide prototype packaging at its Bromont, Quebec facility. Automated hardware and software test engineering will be conducted at DA-Integrated facilities in Ottawa.

Blumind is also collaborating with HaiLa Technologies on a reference design that combines ultra-low power, communication, and processing. It will also have access to the University of Ottawa’s student talent pool, which will provide facilities for neuromorphic device prototyping.

Blumind’s ultra-efficient and performant AI chips will contribute to the development of a Canadian-owned, sustainable, energy-efficient computing and climate-resilient AI infrastructure.

It strengthens the domestic semiconductor sector by growing design capability, retaining and developing intellectual property, and commercializing advanced AI technology while employing Canadian engineers and research partners.

"This support from FABrIC is a powerful catalyst for Blumind. It allows us to accelerate the deployment of our industry leading energy-efficient analog AI inferencing technology, ensuring that Canada remains at the forefront of the next wave of innovation for physical AI and IoT solutions. FABrIC is helping Blumind to enable a new generation of low-power products that can sense and respond to the world in real-time."
