FABrIC’s Product Development Challenges are designed to accelerate the creation of semiconductor‑ based products in Canada. To ensure your project’s success, FABrIC offers more than just funding – we can offer the technical infrastructure and expert advisors that help you navigate the complexities of developing and commercializing new, advanced sensors and other semiconductor IoT products.
Comprehensive Technical Advice
Technical advice is available during the proposal development stage – and support once your project has been awarded. Technical support can mitigate risk and shorten the time-to market.
Services eligible to be covered by FABrIC Challenge Support*:
- Third party IP identification
- Design and manufacturing advice: technology/fab constraints and effective strategies for successful chip manufacturing
- Advice and training on CAD tools and design methodologies to enable successful design and manufacturing
- Packaging, post-processing and test strategies, as well as sourcing for packaging, post-processing and test services
- Design for manufacturability and testability support, including design reviews and risk analysis
Streamlined Fabrication Access
Awarded projects can benefit from streamlined access to advanced technology and services – augmenting your team’s capabilities to support its success.
- Preferential fabrication pricing: FABrIC grant recipients are only responsible for the cost of direct materials plus shipping and brokerage – all of which are eligible project costs.
- Services eligible to be covered by FABrIC Challenge Support*:
- Technology: access to required technologies, Process Design Kits (PDKs) and IP, including agreement administration for technology access, administrative support for export controls documentation, logistics
management and interfacing with foundries for design submission - Design Rule Checking (DRC), DRC reports, results communication and proposed corrective actions
- Handling and preparation of manufactured chips for packaging and test
- Technology: access to required technologies, Process Design Kits (PDKs) and IP, including agreement administration for technology access, administrative support for export controls documentation, logistics
* These services are only available for technologies supported by CMC.
CMC offers additional services outside the scope of Challenge support, including development services, custom packaging and CAD tools for startups through the VIE program.
