Instructors

Luke Govia
CMC Microsystems

Luke Govia is the manager of the Quantum Technologies group at CMC Microsystems, where he leads a team devoted to accelerating the development and adoption of quantum technology solutions. A theoretical physicist by training, he has over 15 years of R&D experience in quantum information science across the academic, government and industrial sectors in Canada, the United States, and Europe. His diverse expertise spans superconducting quantum devices, characterization and benchmarking of quantum computers, fault-tolerant quantum computing, and neuromorphic computing.

He obtained his PhD in Physics from Saarland University in Saarbrücken, Germany and holds a MSc in Quantum Information from the University of Waterloo. He is currently a member of the Unitary Foundation’s Open Quantum Benchmark Committee, an Affiliate of the Institute for Quantum Computing at the University of Waterloo, and from 2021-2023 he was the Secretary-Treasurer of the Division of Quantum Information of the American Physical Society.

Charles Paradis
CMC Microsystems

Charles Paradis is a staff scientist in the Quantum Technologies group at CMC Microsystems, where he is part of a team devoted to accelerating the development and adoption of quantum technology solutions. He has accumulated 5 years of experience at CMC for 5 years, after completing his bachelor and Master’s degree in Physics at Université de Sherbrooke, working on squeezed states generation through dual pumping a tunnel junction at cryogenic temperatures.

His experience covers superconducting devices and qubits, mesoscopic physics and more recently getting into Micro-electro-mechanical systems or MEMS. At CMC, he has been working on fabrication support activities, PDK development and organizing and lecturing the CMC Superconducting Devices workshop since he joined. He recently joined the MEMS technologies group at CMC as well, offering MPW fabrication run support and organizing training events, in a similar fashion as his Quantum team activities.

Noah Janzen
University of Waterloo

Noah Janzen is a PhD student working under the supervision of Adrian Lupascu in the Superconducting Quantum Devices (SQD) group at the University of Waterloo’s Institute for Quantum Computing (IQC). His main research focuses on the tunable coupling of superconducting flux qubits to open waveguides as a platform for controlled light-matter interaction. This system holds promise for studying fundamental physics paradigms such as time-dynamics in extreme coupling regimes and intrinsic quantum field entanglement.

Noah is involved with various fabrication projects within the SQD group which use the facilities of the university’s QNFCF (Quantum-Nano Fabrication and Characterization Facility), as well as with other experiments on design and characterization of resonator and qubit devices.
