With the right support, Canada’s semiconductor industry will not only contribute billions of dollars and create thousands of jobs for the Canadian economy – it will enhance the competitive capacity of our most important industries.
That is the core message behind the pre-budget submission jointly developed by CMC Microsystems, ICTC, SECTR, ventureLAB and Canada’s Semiconductor Council. Semiconductors are the backbone of a 21st century economy. From telecommunications, automotive, advanced manufacturing to mining and natural resources, precision agriculture, oceans and medtech, a vibrant semiconductor sector is essential as Canada mobilizes to strengthen domestic industries and pursue global markets.
The submission underscores the need for a secure talent pipeline, protections for Canadian intellectual property ownership and retention, and the need for the facilities and infrastructure to fabricate semiconductors.
